VERY SIMPLE WHITE LOAF

INGREDIENTS

Allinson Premium White Very Strong Bread Flour

500g

Allinson Easy Blend Yeast

7g (1 sachet)

Salt

1tsp

Sugar

1tsp

Water

300ml

VERY SIMPLE WHITE LOAF

Directions:

Mix the flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the yeast.

Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and add warm water. Mix together until a soft dough starts to form. This will take a couple of minutes.

Either knead with the dough hook of a free-standing mixer or by hand. To knead by hand: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Not too much flour as it will dry out the dough. Begin kneading by stretching the dough out with the heel of your hand. Pull some towards you. Fold this over and press down. Continue this, giving quarter turns to the dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, this can take up to 10 minutes.

Shape as required. No tin? Shape into a round loaf that can be baked into a baking tray. If you'd prefer to make rolls, divide the dough into 50-75g sectios, shape into balls and place on a warm baking sheet. Make sure each of your dough balls are the same size.

Pre-heat your oven to 230C/450F. Cover the dough with a damp tea cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until dough has doubled in size.

Sprinkle the dough with a little flour to creat a crisp rustic coating on top of the bread. Place in the centre of the pre-heated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.

Once out of the oven, tap the loaf on the bottom to check that it sounds hollow. If not, pop it back in the oven for a further 5 minutes, checking not to burn it.
